Character: Cyclicals × defensives
◦ Pieces dated up to 15 Jul 2026 were written under index methodology v1; the current series is v2.2 (working papers with DOI). See the methodology.
Every market has two rooms: the one that breathes with the economy — the cyclicals — and the one that pays rent regardless of it — the defensives (utilities, real estate, concessions). Money lives in one or the other depending on fear. This is the study of that change of address across fifteen years: when capital filled the shelter, when it returned to the cycle, and what the rotation announced — and what it did not.
Inside the stock market, two groups tell opposite stories.
