When the three axes agree on defense

Derivative

The extreme

The Radar reads the same market through three windows: surface mood, risk appetite, and the intermarket structure beneath the prices. Most of the time they disagree — and it is the disagreement that usually organizes the reading. July 2025 was rare because all three pointed the same way, and the way was defense. Mood pulled back from 92.3 to 39.0, risk appetite from 76.4 to 17.5, and the structure, far from improving, firmed up in strong risk-off (score from 22.19 to 28.11). Complete convergence, single direction.

What happened next

The agreement was fleeting. As early as August 2025 mood shot back to extreme optimism (72.3) while the structure stayed defensive — the axes returned to disagreeing. In October there was another form of accord, milder: mood and appetite came off opposite extremes and met in neutral territory. But the clearest convergence came in December 2025, and it was grim: appetite and intermarket collapsed together, the intermarket score scraping the floor at 8.87. Twice in half a year the axes agreed — and both times the direction was down.

What didn't happen

The tempting reading — "when the three clocks tell the same time, there is a clear signal of a turn" — does not hold up. July's agreement preceded neither rest nor recovery: it was followed by the immediate return of euphoria in August. Agreement is neither a bottom nor a top; it is merely the temporary absence of the dissenting axis that had served as an alibi. In 2025, the axes spent more time fighting than agreeing, and the fight said more.

Honest verdict

The rarity of July 2025 lay not in the direction, but in the consensus. Three instruments that usually disagree pointed together toward defense — and even so the outcome was heterogeneous. Aligned axes reduce the ambiguity of the reading; they do not reduce the dispersion of what comes after.
